Drapery Cleaning Tips

Draperies collect more dirt than we realize; they retain smoke, heating fumes, oil, dust, lint, pollen and bacteria which research indicates can gradually cut fabric fibers. Drapery fabric can also be damaged by improper opening and closing. Check drapery rods and cords to make sure they function properly. Never pull on draperies, always use the cord or pull. The harsh effects of light can ruin window coverings. While it's impossible to prevent light damage, it can be reduced with a good lining and by rotating the drapes to minimize exposure. After years of exposure, draperies build up oils which may yellow with age. During dry cleaning, the oils are removed, thus accentuating the yellowing. This discoloration cannot be removed, so it's important to decrease the natural aging process by regular cleaning. We recommends draperies be professionally cleaned every 18-24 months.
